KinoKlub at the anatomy theatre

In August KinoKlub took place in the old Anatomy Lecture Theatre in Summerhall (animals not humans, but still…) so accordingly we took the opportunity to present a series of body-horror and dissection related surreal shorts. These included contributions from the inimitable Jan Svankmajer, Chris Cunningham and Quay Brothers.

Rene Laloux’s Le Planete Sauvage

In June we chose to feature Rene Laloux’s Le Planete Sauvage (AKA Fantastic Planet), an hallucinatory animated feature from 1973. The film was preceded by some choice shorts from US animator Suzan Pitt, including the film Asparagus which was regularly screened before David Lynch’s Eraserhead for two years on the midnight movie circuit.

This screening took place in the  Banshee Labyrinth cinema in the undergrounds of Edinburgh’s old town. http://www.thebansheelabyrinth.com/
